This Summer saw a first for me. I packed my suitcase, kissed my family goodbye and off I went for a girly hen party weekend. Being 6 months pregnant, it was never going to be a boozy weekend for me (not that I drink anyway) so my focus was on the company, the fun and the food. It did not disappoint!
A classy evening in
On the Saturday night, we’d planned a glamorous and sophisticated night in. Take away pizza wasn’t going to cut it for our posh night, so the hen party organisers (bridesmaids) got in touch with Chris the chef. Chris was already booked but one of his Chefs Dave was available. Dave was booked and 14 excited girls sent over our food choices for a night in with fancy food. All the food was was going to be prepared in advance by Chris and Dave as a team, it was nice to know that we had 2 experts on the case and could taste and enjoy the cooking from both chefs.
8pm Saturday arrived and we all took our seats. The 2 ladies accompanying Dave had set the table and were keeping the drinks flowing for us. We were all very much embracing the VIP treatment.
Then the food arrived! OMG the food! The starters (or little works of art that they were) were all served up. The colours and flavours blew were out of this world. For the first time all weekend, the party house fell silent other than the constant ‘MMmms’ and ‘AHhhs’ of delight. As well as our own starters, there were also a couple of sharing extras placed on the middle of the table. Not prematurely filling up on these little delights was no easy task!
With the last starter plates promptly cleared away by the 2 smiley waitresses, the mains started arriving. At this post we were all starting to wonder if there was secretly a team of 10 chefs hiding away in the kitchen. We had not heard a single noise. The kitchen was silent and yet from it, appeared beautiful plates of delicious food. With so many different dishes all arriving at the same time and looking stunning, we were amazed by Dave’s calm and professional manor. The whole team were a credit to Chris the Chef. I get more flustered serving breakfast for 4 of us in my house – and it’s rare we have anything fancier than cheerios!
Time for something sweet
Next was obviously dessert. I’m not afraid to say my chocolate mousse dish was as good as licked clean! I had no trouble polishing off the bride’s when she was too full to finish either. After all, what are friends for?
The richness of the chocolate was out of this world. As with every dish that had been served to us, the presentation was impeccable.
Despite leaving nothing from my 3 courses, my stomach felt content and happy. I was full, but as the flavours were so delicate and the portion sizes so carefully prepared and presented, it didn’t leave you with that after-Christmas-dinner, fit-to-burst feeling.
A perfect evening
Everything about our evening was perfect, from the service, through to the immaculate state of the kitchen afterwards – and especially the food. If you’re looking for a classy hen party idea, I would absolutely say that bringing in a fine dining chef is the way to go. If Chris the Chef (or Dave) are free, I can promise you they will make your evening special with food you’ll never forget!
Oh and Dave/Chris, if you happen to read this; it’s my 30th birthday in November… The perfect time for a girl to be well fed and treated to an evening of luxury 😉
Regrettably, It didn’t occur to me to photograph my dishes until after I’d started tucking in. I have used a couple of photographs from Chris The Chef‘s website but can assure you that they are a true reflection of the works of art that we were served.
