Swadlincote Wedding Fair has been and gone (for 2017 at least). What an amazing day is was! The sun shone, stores on Swadlincote high street had beautiful wedding window displays and excited brides got a chance to meet some unique and wonderful local wedding suppliers.
Swadlincote is a great place to find everything that you need for your wedding as we have tons of local shops and businesses where you can find everything from wedding dresses and suits to wedding cakes, flowers and venue decoration. We also have a lot of lovely wedding venues locally so it’s definitely worth a look, even if you’re not familiar with the area.
I also had the privilege of talking to most of the lovely suppliers at the wedding fair and have a chat with them about who they are, where they’re from and how they can make your wedding day extra special. I was thrilled to discover that every one of the wedding suppliers and businesses that I spoke to were very local to, if not actually based in Swadlincote. And I have to add, what a friendly and welcoming bunch they are. I thought by including the suppliers in this post, it would also double up as a go-to place for brides and grooms looking to book local suppliers for their Weddings. After all, by sourcing suppliers locally, chances are you will save money on their travel costs as well as reducing the carbon footprint that your day will have. Have a read of ‘How to plan an environmentally Friendly Wedding (that could save you money too) for more cost cutting, eco-friendly wedding planning tips!
So let’s have a look at who was there today, we’ll start with the wedding shops that are always based in Swadlincote and then move on to the suppliers that were exhibiting.
Weddings R Us are one of the largest suppliers of flowers and venue decor in the Midlands. They do everything including bridal flowers, chair covers, balloons & floral centre centerpieces. I actually used Weddings R Us for venue decor at my own wedding and I can highly recommend. They are friendly, professional, nothing is too much trouble and they even managed to fit me in last-minute.
Jon Paul Menswear will have everything that your groom and his groomsmen need to do you proud on your wedding day. The shop is huge inside and there is so much choice. I also spoke briefly with the gentleman there who was more than happy to guide me to the best displays and answer any questions. Hire prices are some of the best I have seen as well, so definitely worth a look!
Well what a little treasure chest this shop is. I had to keep reminding myself that I was at the wedding fair to tell all you guys about it, not to browse thousands of beautiful gifts and trinkets and picture where I needed them in my house. There are some lovely wedding items here, but even if you’re not getting married, I can assure you, you will find something here that you love!
Whilst you may not have your wedding here, if you’re local to Swadlincote and love scrumptious tea and cake (who doesn’t?) then grab your bridesmaids and bring them here for a tea and wedding plan gossip! It has just the calmest atmosphere and the owner Amanda is just the friendliest, most welcoming lady. It’s also the perfect place if you’re looking for Alcohol Free Hen Party Ideas local to Swadlincote.
I can not drive past this shop without slowing down to 2 mph to stare at the wedding dresses in the beautifully dressed window. Some of the dresses were also included in the catwalk show which you will see further down the page.
Moving on to the wedding suppliers who were exhibiting at Swadlincote wedding Fair:
I tasted the brownies… Oh my gosh! These cakes looked and tasted amazing. You and your guests won’t be disappointed if you order your cake from here!
As well as beautiful bridal gowns, Rococo Weddings (based in Melbourne, Derbyshire) also have a range for the Mother of the bride and bridesmaids. So assemble your bridal party and spend a day getting all of you kitted out in their gorgeous gowns.
Is there anything that these professional gentlemen don’t do? The Dance Floor Company set up a dance floor at my wedding and I never saw them come or go. I was talking to my guests, turned back around and there was this lovely twinkling, glittery dance floor set up! I think this is what you need from some suppliers, to come in and do the job discreetly so that the day is not disturbed in any way, The Dance Floor Company nailed it! They also do the very popular giant love letters, LED Uplighting, LED Tables, DJ’s, limousine hire and much more.
(A.KA. I do Camper Weddings and Proms)
I had no idea how luxurious a camper van could be until I met Elsie The Camper Van. Brides of 2017 are going crazy over wedding camper vans but if it’s not to your taste, click on their page to view their full range of vehicles that can be hired locally.
What a fantastic voice. My foot was tapping away whilst I took his photo. I heard him say that he is also a wedding DJ so whether you’re looking for a singer or someone who can choose the right music to keep your guests dancing all night, get in touch with Paul and see what he can offer you.
I had a nice chat with this lovely gentleman – Kevin Goodall who offers a selection of smooth jazz, jazz and soul to add that special touch to your wedding. Kevin is very talented and professional so if you’re looking for a classy sound like that of a sax, he’s your man.
The Ivory Chapter are based in Melbourne, South Derbyshire, a short drive from Swadlincote. Most of their dresses are made here in England and they are very flexible with their appointment times. If you and your bridesmaids can only get together in the evening, no problem! Get in touch with Phoebe who will be more than happy to help.
Airbrush makeup is always popular with brides who want that flawless look. Jane told me it takes about 45 minutes to apply the makeup to a bride on her big day but will spend normally a couple of hours at the recommended trial trying out different looks until the bride knows exactly what she wants. The ladies in the pictures on the table all had stunning make up.
Being so local to Swadlincote, Kera and I have bumped into each other several times. I have admired her work for years. Although my photo doesn’t capture Kera’s skills and talent with her camera (do you know how nervous I felt trying to take a photo of a photographer with a camera that I only know how to point and shoot?) be sure to click the link and check out her website for an impressive portfolio as well as prices and contact details.
This was such a fun stand. J B Woodcraft hire out handmade, traditional, wooden games for weddings, perfect to keep your guests busy during the time between the ceremony and wedding breakfast.
Decadent cakes makes beautiful cakes for all occasions. Be sure to have a look at the photo section of the linked page for some wedding cake inspiration but be warned, it’ll leave for feeling hungry for something stunningly sweet!
A brand new florist and furniture hire business that will be opening it’s own shop this summer 2017. As well as bespoke floral bouquets and displays, Inspirations will also be hiring out sweet carts, love letters, large photo frame seating plans and much more!
A huge range of personalised and beautiful handmade wooden gifts made by a small, family run business in Swadlincote. There were guest books, family trees, keyrings, photo frames and tons more to add that personalised feel to your big day details.
Something that I had not seen before but immediately drew my attention was Contour Tanning. Julie sprays the very popular St Tropez tan solution onto the skin whilst creating a contoured look to create gorgeous, natural sun-kissed effect like that on the banner in the photo. And let’s face it, what woman doesn’t want to look like that?
Looking very posh right in the middle of the high street was Classic Wedding Cars of Ashby. Based just a 15 minute drive away from Swadlincote, Classic Wedding Cars of Ashby covers the whole of the Midlands. Click on the link and have a look at the cars up close on the website. You’ll be sure to arrive in style in one of these beauties.
Feeling hungry? East Midlands Hog Roasts have got you covered. All food is prepared and served by a qualified chef (who is also a very friendly chap). As well as the hog roast there are also vegetarian choices and the option to have a full BBQ at your wedding. Check out their packages on the website for prices and menu options.
Looking and sounding amazing, Rebecca lifted the energy and spirit of the entire street with her vintage voice and confidence on stage. You couldn’t help but have a smile on your face whilst her singing was within ear shot. Click the link to hear Rebecca sing on and check her availability.
Trailer Made Cocktails is run by a friendly husband and wife team who are set on bringing you and your wedding party the best cocktails and alcoholic drinks for your big day. I think this would be absolutely perfect for a festival style wedding, or any outdoor event where people still want to enjoy a well made drink served with a smile.
Looking for somewhere fun to blow off some steam for you hen or stag party? Field Sport UK is the perfect place for men and women alike to try something a little different and get their hands dirty. Set in 26 acres of incredible woodland in Ashby (a 15 minute drive from Swadlincote), Field Sport UK hosts all kinds of activities from clay shooting, to archery and even a zombie experience. Booking is essential so grab your friends and book your unique experience.
I found the whole day to be great fun, all of the suppliers were welcoming and friendly with big smiley faces. The catwalk show was a real highlight, the girls all looked gorgeous in their gowns and with their hair and makeup done beautifully by M&N Company , the audience thoroughly enjoyed it.
At next year’s fair I would love to see even more suppliers involved. A stationery business would have been a great addition to the day as well as a videographer. Swad Town Team did a fabulous job in organising the event, choosing fantastic suppliers and letting local people know about it. I’m already excited for Swadincote wedding fair 2018!
If you exhibited at Swadlincote wedding fair 2017 and I haven’t included you (some were too busy for me to get close to) please get in touch and I will be more than happy to get you added in.
